They have forgotten its sacredness, a trend set by their celebritiesWhile marriage might be considered to be an outdated concept in Europe and America, there are some cultures which are still grabbing hard on to its sacredness and meaning.. These cultures are included in most of Asia out of which Pakistan is mainly the one we are going to focus on right now.
Pakistani people take their religion very seriously and their religion, Islam, takes marriages very seriously. Pakistani society does not respect the love between a man and a woman unless they are married. Without marriage, men and women are not allowed to live together. Marriages in our society not only bind the two people together but also make a bond between their families.
I realize I might be making marriage sound dreadful, but it’s not. Marriage is a beautiful, pure and holy thing. Weddings in Pakistan are a lot of fun. The rituals and their unique customs make it a very interesting experience for all those involved. One of the things people look most forward to is the idea of dressing up. Who doesn’t enjoy dressing up? It is the one ceremony you can show off your assets in. Women pile on gold and expensive jewelry to show off to other women.
There are three main stages of marriage.
Mehndi: This is a very special day for the bride. The colors of this day are yellow, orange, green and pink. In the past, The Bridal Dressess in pakistan are churidar, gharara, sharara and lehngas are famous on their mehndis. But now, frocks and long shirts with churidar pajamas are also very in. The fabric used in making these dresses are usually chiffon, silk, and banarsi, which are filled with embroidery work such as zari and other fancy works. On this day, the bride shows off her natural beauty and doesn’t apply much make up. Mehndi goes for a very traditional aura, with flowers and catchy colors. It is a fresh ceremony.
Barat: One of the most special days in a woman’s life. People o out of their way to make It perfect. The dresses worn are usually lahangas and gharas with the colors of red, golden, black or pink. The fabric used is short silk, brocade, organza, tissue, chiffon and georgette. Which is then beautified with beads, discs, sequins, stones, silver and gold dabka kora thread in addition to pearls and crystals which give the dress an elegant effect. Make up and a ton of jewelry is piled on the bride on this day.
Walima: Since this is the last day of her wedding, the bride looks very glamorous and stunning in elegant colors like, white, crème, green, etc. The dresses worn are usually sarhis or lahangas. They are adorned with stones and other gems. Basically, walima is all about elegance and cold beauty.
Pakistani weddings are not pure Islamic traditions, it has picked up many trends from several other cultures as well.
